I believe Joe may have been born in Shackleford County, TX. If so, the family came to Fisher County when he was a small child. They homesteaded several hundred acrs of land northeast of the town of Rotan and the old man was a prosperous farmer and rancher

I remember Joe mentioning having a son by the first marriage and I believe he said the son died in early childhood - although I am not sure about that. I know I never met a Sammy Joe Howard and I believe I would have known him if he was around that part of the country - where everyone knew everyone else. Joe loved little kids. I believe being around them made him think of his little son that had died.

Yes, your information was a big help. Joe Stanley and Siddie married 24 Jun 1939 in Fisher County. They had a son Sammy Joe born 14 Dec 1940, and Barbara Ann's birthdate was 12 Apr 1942. So, your age guesstimation of Barbara's age was correct. Siddie died 28 Jun 1990 in Nolan County, TX.

I believe Barbara Howard is now deceased and I am sure her mother passed away many years I ago. I remember seeing Barbara with her mother occasionally when I was a boy, but I never knew the mother's name. I left Fisher County in
1964 and as far as I know Barbara Howard was then single and lived with her mother, probably in or near the little town of Roby in Fisher County. If memory serves me right Barabara Howard was married briefly in the late 1950's or early 1960's to a man named Ted Reeves. They were probably married in rotan, Fisher County, Texas, and had no children - to the best of my knowledge.
All of the folks I knew that could provide more information about Joe's first marriage are now dead so I really can't tell you more about it. I am quite sure there was only one Joe Stanley Howard living in Fisher County during that time frame.

Have followed a trail to you via Find A Grave.
Was there two gentlemen named Joe Stanley Howard?
I'm researching the Wiley family who are ancestors of my son-in-law. They had a daughter Seddie Emma Wiley who married one Joe Stanley Howard on 24 Jun 1939 and Fisher County. Could they be the same one that married Mava Opal Gooch? If so, do you know of a divorce date for Seddie and Joe?
Any information you are willing to share would be very much appreciated.
