This
is a compilation of information on the earliest known information on
African American Raysors in South Carolina. This is a work
in progress.
Descendants and researchers of these families may be miles ahead of me
in reconstructing these family units and taking them forward through
the
generations. If so, please share. THOMAS
RAYSOR, SR. ESTATE, 1858
BARNWELL COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA I have compiled inforamtion from the the personal property/slave inventory of Senator Thomas Raysor, dated February 2, 1858. A copy of the original document appears in the privately printed Raysor family genealogy by Frank Wannamaker Raysor. LINK to copy of original. I am not certain of my transcription of some names, so I'll let you, the viewer, make your own determinations. Thomas Raysor was born in the Red Bank area of Colleton District, South Carolina. In the 1840's he moved to an area of Barnwell County that now falls within the modern Bamberg County, south of the "Hunters Chapel" community, and not far from the Colleton County line. Julius and Thomas May (mentioned in the Thomas Raysor will) were the grandsons of Thomas Raysor and Hannah Ayer Raysor, the children of John May and Eleanor Raysor May (d. 1847). |
