Fort Pearce, Washington county, Utah Photos, maps, and history of Fort Pearce

Fort Pearce, located southeast of St. George, Utah, was built about 1866 during the Black Hawk War. Major John David Lafayette Pearce was given the responsibilty of protecting the new settlements and livestock from Indian raids. Under his direction, the fort was built to protect a spring and wash in Warner Valley. The fort, spring, and wash all were named for Maj. J.D.L. Pearce.
