“(In History of Cass Co., IN by Thomas B. Helm, 1886, we found sketches of members of Dalzell families. We have found no indication that the two men (John Dalzell and Thomas Dalzell) were said to have settled in Cass Co.. about the same time, were related. Both were born in Ireland and married wives who were born in Pennsylvania.)

Accordiing to Helm, John Dalzell came to Bethlehem Twp., early in 1833 from Washington RTwp., PA, as did his father-in-law, General Richard Crooks. John and his family are shown in the 1850 Census of Adams Twp., Cass Co., IN:

Several of his children continued to live in Cass County for many years and his sons are listed in the 1880 Census of Bewthlehem Township (John #118/121 and Robert, #140/144) John appears to have left at least fifteen grandchildren.
