An Old Settler Dead
Martin Plautz, a resident of the town of Montpelier
and one
of the oldest inhabitants of Kewaunee county, died at
his late
home on Sunday, July 22d, and was buried Tuesday afternoon.
The cause of death was old age, deceased being 73 years
old.
He was born in Germany in 1827 and came to this county
in 1855,
locating in Cooperstown. He remained there ten
years and in 1865
settled in Montpelier, where he resided ever since.
In the war of
the rebellion he responded to the call for troops, enlisting
as a private.
Deceased was a member of John M. Read Post Grand Army
of the
Republic, and was the father of Mrs. Albert Leatz [sic]
of this city.
A wife and seven children survive him.
