Christina Jones, [email protected], wrote that "My great-great grandfather was Napoleon Reneau, who married Catherine Reneau. I know there has been some questions over why Napoleon would marry his half-sister. According to my great uncle, Clare Reneau, Napoleon was left on the Reneau doorstep as an infant. The Reneaus raised him. The identity of who his real parents are is not known."

The 1870 Jefferson County, Tennessee, census lists Napoleon B. Reneau, 26, farm laborer; Catharine 28, Mary E., 3; Rebecca A., 1; and Martha Reneau, age 19.

The 1880 Jefferson County, Tennessee, census lists N. B. Reneau, 33; C., wife, 40; M. E., daughter, 14; B. A., daughter, 11; S. A., daughter, 9; M. J., daughter, 6; W. I., son, 3; and M. C., daughter, 3/12.
