BAPTISM; 3 Jul 1914 by Abraham B. HILIAM
CONFIRMED; 5 Jul 1914 by James G. WOOD

In 1914 Tom left Sevierville by train for Idaho.  His younger sister, Bertha, was married and living in Idaho at the time.  She wrote home and told the family that her husband was abusing her.   Tom was elected to go to Idaho, get Bertha and "take care" of Claude.  The family bought him a new suit, a pistol and a train ticket for the trip.  About the time Tom started for Idaho Bertha and Claude left on the train for Tennessee.  Because of that Tom missed Claude and by the time he saw his sister again, she and Claude were divorced.  The rest of the family moved to Idaho a short time later.  In later years I asked him if he would have used the gun.  He said "Well... if I'd  have wasted the suit and that train ticket, my Daddy would have whipped my butt".  Did that mean yes... or no?  He never would say.

Tom signed up for the draft in WWI but was never drafted.
