Joseph is listed as a 30 year old Charpentier (carpenter) from Hirtzfelden on the passport register with his wife and daughter..3 He emigrated, on 15 November 1846. Point of origin: Antwerp, Belgium. Joseph Bihl, 31 year old carpenter, is listed with Catherine, age 28, and Rosa, age 10 months. Their listed place of birth or residence was Hirtzfelden. The ship's arrival date is not listed but was probably around 1 December 1846. Other passengers from Hirtzfelden on the same ship were Michael Bihl, 50 year old day laborer, and Marie, 20; Simon Fest, 20 year old day laborer; Antoine Strosser, 20 year old farmer; and Paul Strosser, 32 year old mason, Catherine age 30 and Catherine age 3/4..4 He sold Lien and ontract for house to John Fries at San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas, on 15 January 1850. Joseph contracted with John Fries to have a house built on his lot. The house was to be "a stone house of soft white rock of the following dimensions: (to wit) thirty three (33) feet in length and sixteen (16) feet in width by nine feet six inches above the surface of the ground. Said building to have one fire place and the rock to be laid in earth instead of lime mortar and to be neither plastered on the inside or out by said John Fries." Joseph paid $125 on completion and $129 three months after completion for a total of $304 for the house..5 Joseph, as the head of a family "introduced into Texas previous to the 15th day of February, A. D. 1847, by H. Castro..." ,received a certificate for 640 acres of land in Castro's Colony according to the "Colonization Contract of said H. Castro with the Goverment of Texas..." His certificate was issued on 28 July 1851 by J. M Carolan, Land Commissioner for Castro's Colony. He sold his certificate to Francis Giraud on 6 August 1851 for $24.6 Francois declared his intention to become a citizen of the United States at District Court Bexar County, San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas, on 27 July 1855. He petitioned the court to become a citizen at San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas, on 15 October 1857. Francois died at San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas.

Michael and his oldest daughter, Marie Anne, obtained a passport to emmigrate to Texas. His occupation was listed as Journalier (day laborer), from Hirtzfelden going to Texas in America. Others from Hirtzfelden obtaining passports to the same destination the same day were: Michel Nagelin, 37 year old Cultivator (farmer) and wife; Paul Stroser,33 year old Cultivator (farmer), wife and daughter; Antoine Strosser, 20 year old Domestique (servant); and Simon Fest, 19 year old Domestique (servant)..4 Marie Anne Bihl emigrated with her parent Jean Michael Bihl, on 15 November 1846. Point of origin: Antwerp, Belgium. Michael Bihl, 50 year old day laborer, is listed with Marie, age 20. Their listed place of birth or residence was Hirtzfelden. Contrary to the stories published by Henry Fest, his parents were married in the Saint Louis Catholic Church withint one year after the original church was built (August 1847). Simon probably worked on the construction of the building as he arrived about the time Castroville was created and the church cornerstone laid.. Marie's occupation: Seamstress at San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas, in 1850.6 Marie Anne Bihl, Simon Fest Jr., Caroline Fest, Mary Fest, Henry Fest, Plary Jacobs, Joseph Retter and Edward Fest was listed as a household member living with Simon Fest Sr. in the 1860 Census at Pleasanton, Atascosa County, Texas.7 Marie Anne Bihl, Mary Fest, Henry Fest, Edward Fest and Louise Fest was listed as a household member living with Simon Fest Sr. on the 1870 Census at San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. Simon Sr. and his family were living in San Antonio next door to their daughter, Caroline, and her husband Fred Miller on the 1870 census..8 She made a will at San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas, on 29 July 1871. For some reason, Marie Anne wrote her will early. Even though it was written in 1871, it was not filed until 23 October 1888, after her death. She left everything to her husband, Simon, who was also named executor..9 Marie died on 4 October 1888 at San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas, at age 62.1,2 Her body was interred at San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas.1,2
