Adam was born after his father died and named for him. Apparently he was his mother's favorite. Although he was the youngest, he was the first child to go into business on his own. His brother Louis did not open his grocery store until after Adam had died. The exact date and cause of his death had not been determined but a newspaper obituary probably exists in the San Antonio newspapers. Only a day by day search will locate it. Evidently the short marriage did not produce any children. Adam was born at San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas, circa 9 October 1867.1 He was baptized at St. Mary's Church, San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas, on 10 October 1867. Religion: Catholic.1 He was the son of Adam J. Schmitt and Caroline Johanna Bihl.1 He married Clara Praeger on 2 September 1889 at San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas.2 He was a Hardware Store Owner in 1891 at San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. His store was at 539 E. Commerce.3 Adam died in 1892 at San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. Adam is thought to have died by 1893 because his widow, Clara, is living with her mother at that point. It is also strange to note at this point that his father-in-law, Hermann Praeger, died about the same time. More information is needed as to the cause of these deaths.4 His body was interred at San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas, at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
