According to the index to Hampshire marriage licences from the records in
theDiocesan Registers, Winchester, a licence was issued to a Francis
Rumboll andElizabeth Parker [d/o John & Marie?] of Southampton at St
Lawrence's, 30 May 1608.  This index only begins with the year 1607.
A John Parker was included in the 1594 & 1599 lay subsidy assessments for
the ward of St Lawrence but the parish records for St Lawrence have only
survived from 1754.
The following istaken from "The Third Book of Remembrance of Southampton
1514-1602, volume IV1590-1602" -
' John Parker, burgess 1596, was a merchant and blacksmith who lived in
St Michael's with St John ward from c 1567, but moved to St Lawrence'sin
1593, his former place being taken over by Henry Parker, blacksmith,
probably his son, who was married in St Michael's in 1596 and again in
1599
John Parker's mark was a gridiron which appears regularly at the period.
He was fined 20s in 1608 for reviling John Ellzie "with unseamlye
speaches".
Parker died in early September 1612, leaving property in St Michael's and
St Lawrence's as well as the "King's Orchard" in St Mary's where he had a
bowling alley in 1600'
A copy of John Parker's will is in the Hampshire Record Office, reference
161B073.  The Record Office also has a copy of the will and inventory
dated 1639 of George Parker, gentleman.  According to the index to wills,
George Parker is buried at St Lawrence's.  The address of the HRO is
Sussex Street, Winchester, SO23 8TH.

Will written in 26 Feby 1772, and proven 29 Mar 1772, his wife was
Abigail, referred to "as my now wife"  He mentions children, Betty,
Nelly, Sarah, Elizabeth, Benjamin and Samuel.  He infers that they do not
belong to Abigail and that the boys, are minors.  Assume that the minor
children went to other family members, with Samuel going to his Uncle
John in Delaware.  The will left "High Ridge"  and "Parker's Support" to
Samuel, a minor in 1772.  In 1787 the properties were sold be Samuel.
