Comments:	I was just looking through some sites and came across this one. I found it very interesting. I have no clue if any of these people may be related or not. My grandfather was General Jackson Cook and was born in Wayne County, W Va. His father's name was James Cook and his mother was Clarinda ? General was born in Aug. 1869 and married Violetta Pusey. After she died he married her daughter, (his step daughter) Mamie; who is my grandmother.She had a brother and some step brothers and sisters.If anyone has any ainfo, you can e-mail me. Comments:	My name is John Cook and come from the Huff Creek/Man, W.Va. branch of the family. I looked over the history of John and it followed the general line of what my late aunt told me...but some years ago, doing research on settlement patterns in Va/WVa..I came across something. While looking at the deed books in Lewisburg, I found reference to John Cook and Valentine Cook owning land along Indian Creek at the New River. that is now near Rich Creek, Va. on the Va/WVa line near Narrows, Va. (In fact I'm told there is a large body of Cooks at Narrows). Also in the VA. Tech Library, there is a book of Revolutionary War maps and it shows "Cook's Fort" at the same location. That fort was , most likely, a blockhouse; but it seems that such a place was part of the general frontier protection system and fits in with John Cook's activities as a Ranger during that period. Indian Creek is on the Road/path from Lewisburg to the New River and SW Va/WVa. .What is surprising is the name Valentine, as its not part of my branch of the family's tradition. Of course it could be another John Cook ..there was one in Pittsylvania/Franklin County , Va.at the same time, but I don't know what his relationship to Oceana John Cook is or was. Just thought you might be interested. Kind of curious who Valentine was...an unknown brother?
