The ' East Texas ' Pollard Clan After the Civil War , in the last quarter of the 19th Century , quite a number of ' Pollards ' migrated from the southeastern United States westward to Texas . They were called the '84 Settlers " . This is a fair accounting of one branch of the Pollard clan originating in the Georgia area . David Pollard was born 29 March 1849 in Harris County , Georgia . He was the son of William and Nancy ( nee Ogletree ) Pollard . David Pollard married Mary Murrah on 16 December 1869 . David and Mary moved from Georgia in November of 1884 and settled in the Cartwright Community of Wood County , Texas , which is near Mineola and Quitman . David and Mary raised 12 ( twelve ) children . These were Sally Ellison , Oscar David , Anna Belle , Sidney Eugenia , William Thomas , Amanda Elizabeth , James Murrah , Mary Lee , Johnothan Randolph , Claborn Jibson , Nickalous Samuel and Lucia Bell . David Pollard died 22 December 1932 . His wife Mary Murrah Pollard died 19 March 1926 and they are buried in the Hopewell Cemetery near the Cartwright Community . Seaborn Pollard was born 27 September 1838 . He was David Pollard's younger brother . Seaborn served in the Army of the Confederacy and was with General Robert E. Lee at the formal surrender of the South at Appomattox Court House in Virginia . After the Civil War , Seaborn Pollard returned home to Georgia and married Matilda Ingram . They had 9 ( nine ) children . These were Frank , William Seaborn , Walter , Maggie , Nettie , Mamie , Maude , Ben and Rowel . Upon Matilda Ingram Pollard's death in 1887 , Seaborn brought his family to Wood County Texas in February of 1888 . They settled in the Concord Community . He Later married Molly Doyle of Wood County . Seaborn and Molly had 3 ( three ) children . These were Letha , Essie and Lena . Seaborn died 09 April 1906 and is buried in the Concord Cemetery at Wood County . [ Seaborn was the writer's great-grandfather ] . Oscar David Pollard , the son of David and Mary ( nee Murrah ) Pollard was born 20 February 1872 in Harris County Georgia . He married Minnie Lou Lee 24 December 1891 . She was the daughter of Joseph Calvin and Mary Francis ( nee Bailey ) Lee of Coosa County Alabama . They came to Texas in the summer of 1893 with their first child , Cora . They moved to Wood County and settled in the Cloudy Hill Community . They had 8 ( eight ) children . These were Cora May , Annie Pearl , Lillie Lee , Clarence William , John Carlton , Nobie Dee , Mattie Lois and Owieta Lovie . With the exception of Annie and Lillie , all these children lived into the mid1980's in Wood County . Essie Doyle Pollard was the son of Seaborn and Molly ( nee Doyle ) Pollard . He was born 24 November 1891 at Wood County , Texas . Essie Doyle Pollard had the following half -siblings from the union of Seaborn and Matilda ( nee Ingram ) Pollard : Half brothers Frank , William Seaborn , Walter , Ben and Rowel and half sisters Maggie , Nettie , Mamie and Maude .
