Notes for Mary Beatrice (Trix) DEASON
Marriage registration: 1911/23/Blackwood.5

Mary Beatrice (Trix) was born in 1890 in the eastern Victorian gold-mining town of Walhalla. By 1892, at the time of the birth of her brother, Thomas, the family had moved to Foster and by 1903 they had moved to Creswick.

About 1907-1908 Trix, her sister Esther and brother Thomas set-off for Western Australia. Whether Malcolm McLeod accompanied this group is not known.

By 1908 Trix, as well as her sister Esther and brother Thomas, had settled in Greenbushes a tin mining and timber mill town located on the South Western Highway near Bridgetown, Western Australia. Trix was certainly living in Greenbushes at the time of her marriage to Malcolm McLeod in 1911. Their marriage certificate recorded:
Mary Beatrice – age: 21 years, spinster, occupation: home duties, residence: Greenbushes, father: Thomas Deason, an engineer and mother Esther Eddy Pollard; and
Malcolm – age: 33 years, bachelor, occupation: timekeeper, residence: Beria, father: Malcolm McLeod, a blacksmith and mother Mary Atkinson McLeish.
They were married by: W W Roger of the Methodist Church, Greenbushes, witnesses: John Albert Vague and Annie McKay.
Note: John Albert Vague was Trix’s sister’s (Esther’s) husband.

By 1914, the time of the birth of their second child, Audrey, Trix and Malcolm had returned to Victoria and settled in Inglewood (near Bendigo). And, by 1916, the time of the birth of the next child, Alexander, they were at the gold-mining settlement of Eldorado (near Wangaratta).

Malcolm died in 1917 and Trix and the three children moved back to Greenbushes.

Trix operated a sweet, ice cream and tea shop in Greenbushes. At some stage before 1928, the shop was destroyed by fire. By 1928 Trix was living in Leederville, Perth, where she had a business in Oxford St.

In 1928, Trix married Henry Belcher at Brunswick Junction. Henry had a farming property at Waterloo West (13 kilometres east of Bunbury) called Kooroocheang.

Their marriage certificate recorded:
Beatrice Mary (rather than Mary Beatrice) – age: 37 years, widow, occupation: café proprietress, born Walhalla, Victoria, residence: Bunbury West, father: Thomas Deason, an engineer and mother Esther Eddy Pollard; and
Henry – age: 60 years, widower, occupation: farmer, born: Smeaton, Victoria, residence: Waterloo West, father: Joseph Belcher, a farmer and mother: Margaret Graham.
They were married by: Arnold Fryer, rector of St Peter’s, Anglican Church, Brunswick Junction, witnesses: Olive Mary Ferguson and Ernest Cornwall McLeod.

There were no children from this marriage.
