Notes for Hugh Thomas (Hughie) ROBINSON
May have been an artist.

Sometime after 1900 Hugh’s parents and family moved to Dunolly where his father, Hugh, died in 1902. It is likely that the family lived in his grandparent’s home and shop on the corner of Moliagul-Dunolly and Monument Roads. The brick shop, no longer operating, and weatherboard home still exist today (2013) (Section E, Lots 1 & 2).

Hugh, his mother, brother and sister were still living in Moliagul in 1919. The 1919 Commonwealth Electoral Roll noted Hugh’s occupation as: “labourer” and residence: Moliagul. No trace of Hugh has been found on the Electoral Roll of 1924 or later up until 1950 when a Hugh Robinson was recorded as living in Maribyrnong: an Electoral Roll addition for 27 October 1950 noted his occupation: artist and residence: Van Ness Ave, Maribyrnong. (Note: a newspaper article in 1940 noted Hugh’s mother, Elizabeth, as living in Maribyrnong). Hugh does not appear at this location on the 1954 Electoral Roll: he may be the “Thomas” Robinson recorded for Williamstown, occupation: mechanic, residence: Caravan Park, Esplanade, Williamstown.

At the time of Hugh’s death in 1979 he was noted as age: 84 years.
