Notes for Hugh Luther (Hughie) DEASON
The following is from Greg Campbell’s tree:
Hugh Luther (Hughie) was born, 1906, Newbridge (registered Tarnagulla). By 1909 the family had moved to Moliagul where brother, Thomas, was born (registered Dunolly) and Hughie’s father worked as an “engine-driver”. By 1912 the family were probably living in Inglewood where Hughie’s sister, Venus, was born and prior to August 1913, in Bridgewater where Hughie, brother Alfred and sister Leaflet attended school.

From August 1913 until early 1914 the family lived in Moliagul. Moliagul State School records:
Hugh Deason; date of birth: 15 October 1906; admission: 18 August 1913; parent: Alfred Deason; parent’s residence: Moliagul; distance from school: ½ mile; parent’s occupation: engine driver; school last attended: McArthur; highest grade attained: 2; left: early 1914: destination: Newbridge.
Notes:
o Hugh was born 5 (not 15) October 1906 as recorded on birth & marriage certificates
o “McArthur School, No. 1097” is correctly Bridgewater State School, McArthur St, Bridgewater.

In early 1914 the family moved to Newbridge (as noted on Hughie’s school records) where his father worked as a “miner”.

Later in 1914 the family moved to Fryerstown where Hughie’s father continued work as an “engine-driver”. However, by late 1915 they returned to Newbridge (as noted on brother Thomas’s school records) and were still there in 1916 (as noted on sister Zephyr’s school records).

In 1919 the family moved to Diamond Hill, Bendigo; by 1924 closer to central Bendigo at 627 Hargreaves St; and by 1931 to 619 Hargreaves St. The 1931 Commonwealth Electoral Roll noted Hugh Luther’s occupation as: “labourer” and his residence as: 619 Hargreaves St, Bendigo.

Hugh (Hughie) married Nellie Bertha Mayling in 1933, Golden Square, Bendigo.

After their marriage Hugh and Nellie rented a home at 614 Hargreaves St (across the street from their former homes). The 1936 Commonwealth Electoral Roll noted Hugh Luther’s occupation as: “labourer”, his [former] residence: 619 Hargreaves St, Bendigo, Nellie Bertha’s occupation as: “home duties” and her residence: 614 Hargreaves St, Bendigo. The 1937 Commonwealth Electoral Roll noted Hugh Luther’s occupation as: “labourer”, Nellie Bertha’s occupation as: “home duties” and their residence: 615 Hargreaves St, Bendigo.
In early 1937 Hugh and Nellie moved to Melbourne. The 1942 Commonwealth Electoral Roll noted Hugh Luther’s occupation as: “labourer”, Nellie Bertha’s occupation as: “home duties” and their residence: 5 Eden St, Footscray. By 1949 they had moved again. The 1949 Commonwealth Electoral Roll noted Hugh Luther’s occupation as: “electrical fitter”, Nellie Bertha’s occupation as: “home duties” and their residence: 3a Beaumont Pde, West Footscray. And, again, by 1949 they had moved to nearby Tottenham. The 1954 Commonwealth Electoral Roll noted Hugh Luther’s occupation as: “electrical operator”, Nellie Bertha’s occupation as: “home duties” and their residence: 11 Sredna St, Tottenham.

Around 1966/1967 Hugh and Nell retired to Putnam St, Bendigo.
