Note: Baxter research (1975) records Margaret’s baptism as 5 March 1780.3

At the time of Margaret’s baptism in 1780 the family was noted as living at Tresco.3

At the time of their marriage in 1801 Margaret was noted as a “spinster” and John a “bachelor and sailor belonging to HMGB ‘Assault’”, both were of Tresco (see Notes). They were married by banns dated by David Evans; Margaret made her mark “X”; John did not; witness – Samuel Ellis.3

Notes: Duff research (2006) records the marriage in both the St Mary’s and Tresco registers: the St Mary’s register recording John Davis as from St Mary’s and a “mariner”; and the Tresco register recording John Davis as from Tresco and a “sailor from HM Gunship “Assault”. Baxter research (1975) uses the spelling “Davies”.3
