Margaret was from Tresco.

Transcribed from the “Off Island Registers” by the late R. M. Baxter:
MARRIAGE: 25 7ber 1801
John Davies , Bachelor, a sailor belonging to H>M>G>B> Assault, &
Margaret Deason, spinster, of Tresco Scilly, were married in this church of
Tresco by Banns by me David Evans M:A +c+c.
This marriage was solemnized between us (John Davies
(The mark X of Margaret Deason
In the presence of (Samuel Ellis
( The mark of John Deason

Note: Baxter research (1975) records Margaret’s baptism as 5 March 1780.2

At the time of Margaret’s baptism in 1780 the family was noted as living at Tresco.

At the time of their marriage in 1801 Margaret was noted as a “spinster” and John a “bachelor and sailor belonging to HMGB ‘Assault’”, both were of Tresco (see Notes). They were married by banns dated by David Evans; Margaret made her mark “X”; John did not; witness – Samuel Ellis.2

Notes: Duff research (2006) records the marriage in both the St Mary’s and Tresco registers: the St Mary’s register recording John Davis as from St Mary’s and a “mariner”; and the Tresco register recording John Davis as from Tresco and a “sailor from HM Gunship “Assault”. Baxter research (1975) uses the spelling “Davies”.2
