5Harold spent his early childhood in Greenbushes where his father was a miner and mother a teacher at the timber mill school. They lived in accommodation provided by the mill up until about 1926 when they moved into their own home in Greenbushes township.
Harold attended school at the Greenbushes Mill school where he was taught by his mother. After winning a scholarship he attended Perth Modern School for his secondary school years.
About 1928 the family moved to Perth and operated mixed businesses at East Perth, Highgate, Subiaco and Wembley.
In 1939, Harold joined the RAAF as a Wireless Air Gunner and after training in Victoria he served overseas for the war years in Egypt, Malta and other countries in that area.,.
The 1943 Commonwealth Electoral Roll noted Harold’s occupation as: mechanic and his residence: 18 Panghourne St, Wembley Park.
After WWII he achieved success as a racing car driver and won a State trophy just before he was killed in a motor car accident.
