Obituary of Richard A. Martsolf, Sr.

Richard A. Martsolf Sr.

Richard A. Martsolf Sr., 78, of South Heights, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, in The Medical Center, Beaver.  Born Jan. 31, 1923, in Beaver, a son of the late Ernest W. Martsolf and Jessie May Reid Martsolf Stotts, he was a graduate of Beaver High School, class of 1941. He served as a corporal in the 691st Tank Destroyer Division of the U.S. Army during World War II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two wives, Jean Jeffers Martsolf and Betty Mullen Martsolf; a sister, Doris Martsolf Parsons; two brothers, Wilbur and Ernest Martsolf, and a step-grandson, James Leeson.

He is survived by three children, Evelyn Morcelle, East Aurora, N.Y.; Richard Martsolf Jr., Hookstown, and Doris Leek Zagrocki, Hopewell Township; three stepchildren, Mildred McMillen, in Michigan; Debra Shutak, in South Carolina, and Betty Jane, in South Carolina; 11 grandchildren, seven step grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren [and 4 step great-grandchildren].

Richard was a faithful member of the Hookstown Free Methodist Church. He shared his life experiences through poetry and music with his family and friends.

Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the WELCH FUNERAL HOME, Hookstown. A Victory Celebration will be conducted Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Hookstown Free Methodist Church by the Rev. Wilmer J. Olszewski.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Richard A. Martsolf Memorial Fund, c/o Hookstown Free Methodist Church.
