The S.S. British Princess was a 3,864 gross ton ship, built by Harland &
Wolff, in Belfast in 1882 for British owners. Her details were - length 420.1ft x beam
42.2ft, one funnel, four masts, single screw and a speed of 12 knots. Launched in December
1882, she was chartered to American Line and commenced her maiden voyage from Liverpool to
Philadelphia on 28th April 1883. She commenced her last voyage on this service on 16th May
1894 and was sold to French owners and renamed "Les Alpes" the following year.
In 1910 she was scrapped at Marseilles. [North Atlantic Seaway by N.R.P.Bonsor,
