An ambitious Sesquicentennial project chosen by the Wayne County
Historical Society is compiling a history book of the county. Wayne
County has lots of great history, but it has never been put together into
a single volume. Several towns have printed their own books over
the years, but we lack a general history of the whole county.
Using the idea of 'Build-a-Book', the history will be made up of segments
- one for each of the 15 decades since the county was organized in 1851.
The Historical Society is making white, three-ring notebooks available
for $5.00, (plus $4 postage for mail orders). They are complete
with cover and the first section about the 1850's. As history pages
of the succeeding decades are completed, they can be purchased and added
to the three-ring binders. The segments will be available at the
museum. The notebook style will make it easy for individuals to add
pages of their own - newspaper articles, family histories, pictures, etc.
Do you have articles or old letters that might be appropriate to include?
Do you have old Wayne County pictures, especially of people doing things
or old street scenes, that you would allow us to copy and use in the book?
If so, please contact the Wayne County Historical Society at P. O. Box
104, Corydon, Iowa 50060 or call Jan Winslow at 872-2297.
