Hamburg passenger list records document the emigration of Adolph Nielsen and his half-sister Friedericka (son and daughter of Conrad) in 1881 on the ship "Herder". More importantly, those records list the town of "Kattbeck" as Adolph's last known residence. The spelling today is Kattbek and the village is located only four miles SW of Loit where Adolph's brother Andrew reportedly was raised by an uncle and aunt prior to his emigration to the U.S.

With that information in hand, parish records from that area identified Hans Adolph and Margaretha (Henningsen) Nielsen as the parents of our known Nielsen ancestor Conrad Nielsen. According to the baptismal record for Conrad, Hans and Margaretha resided in and farmed near Rabenholz, Schleswig-Flensburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Rabenholz is located about 30 miles south of the current Danish border, near the towns of Hollmühle and Kattbek where son Conrad later lived.

Hans and Margaretha had at least three sons, two of which were twins.

  1. Adolph Hinrich, birth date unknown, but was listed as a sponsor at nephew Adolph's baptism in 1865.
  2. Diedrich August, b. 25 Oct 1836 in Rabenholz.
  3. Conrad Peter Heinrich, b. 25 Oct 1836 in Rabenholz.

As of August 2010, no other information is known about Conrad's parents or siblings.
