John & Lena (Huseman / Sander) Spencer

Lena Huseman was the daughter of Margaretha Huseman from her first marriage (prior to Margaretha's marriage to Heinrich Sander). Lena immigrated to the U.S. from Germany with her mother and step-father Heinrich Sander in 1875. The family settled and farmed in Jackson County, Wisconsin near Ettrick.

Lena married John Spencer ca. 1888 and soon thereafter moved to Winona, Minnesota (1895 Minnesota state census). John died in 1912 and Lena moved to Minneapolis to live with her daughter Opal V Scott (1920 Federal Census record). Lena died in 1923 in Minneapolis following injuries sustained from being hit by a car as she ran across a street to board a streetcar. Both she and her husband John are buried in Wood Lawn Cemetery in Winona, Minnesota; as is her daughter Opal and son-in-law Earl Scott.

Lena and John had two children:

  1. Opal Vernie, b. 1890, married Earl Seymour Scott ca. 1909, died 1942.
  2. Unknown child, d. before June 1900 (based on 1900 Federal Census record)
