[26]Caleb Worley - | |
Here is the image of Caleb
Worley, a carte-de-visite. I’ve never been able to verify the
Fireman aspect. He was born about 1841 in Trotwood, Madison Twp. in
Montgomery County, Ohio on a farm. After the war he was a carpenter
in Dayton. Unfortunately some nice person, probably in his family,
in the remote past wrote over the pencil inscriptions in ball point.
Also the bottom of the card has been clipped, cutting away part of
the inscription. The “1862” on the front is wrong, for two reasons.
His hat insignia reads 71 OVVI (Ohio Veteran Volunteer Infantry)
This was not used by the men until they veteranized in 1864. Also
the verso bears a revenue stamp that was used in 1864-66, and is ink
inscribed “65”. So the image is not from 1862, but 1865. Acc002593/Ph10079-001 to 003.jpg Text and Images used by permission of owner Steve Altic |
