This financial journal covers the years 1953 to 1957 (There is
nothing recorded for the year 1955) - This Journal is for the years spent at the 110-acre farm, Union Township, Delaware County, Indiana - The North of Eaton Farm was sold 4 March 1953 - it was sold on contract - The payments of $45.00 were for the mortgage - There are entries most every month (See Journal Details below) - Jones: Jones Purina Feed store, Eaton, Delaware County, Indiana - Dr. Hyde: Veterinarian for the farm - he was from Hartford City, Blackford County, Indiana - Dr. Manning: Dentist in Muncie - he also graduated from Muncie Central High School with Norma in 1938 - I went through the journal and pulled out the items in the Journal Details below - The entries in 1956 and 1957 began to get sparse for some reason as can be seen by there being no entries for things like groceries, milk check, etc. In 1957 I am sure this was due to Walter's illness and Norma was overwhelmed. - Haircuts were $.75 - Several entries which show either $.75 or multiples for Walter and the boys - An entry of "--" indicates that nothing was recorded for that item during the month - Milk Check: We had milk cows and this is the money earned from selling the milk to Producer's Dairy in Muncie - |

(1) "Final Bill" - I am not sure what that means? Maybe it was when the phone companies changed - at first we had service with the Gaston Phone company. At some point Indiana Bell purchased the Gaston Phone Company. |

(1) This was
a total of 2 bills paid during the month Walter was sick with Meningitis in 1957 and was hospitalized at Ball Hospital in Muncie, Delaware County, Indiana - This was a difficult time for Norma because she had to manage the farm, the home and the children. Walter was very sick for quite a while and this was ultimately what led to selling the farm in the fall of 1958 and purchasing the Stoney Haven Motel. |
