Family line from England

Robey/Robie/Roby family line from early England to America.

Descendants of John Roby

The family of Roby of Castle Donington is traced from 1261 more than six centuries ago. Records are very sparse for the first two hundred and fifty years, and only from John Roby, born 1455 and died in 1515, have we the precise link between the successive generations.

1. John Roby, b.1455, England, married 1485 in Castle Donington, England, wifes name is unknown. John died 1515, buried Castle Donington, England.
..2. Thomas Roby b. 1501 Castle Donington, England.
..2. Emmotte Roby b. 1505.
Thomas Roby, son of John Roby (above), is the stock from which diverge the several lines given to this pedigree. The second son of Thomas, John born 1534, is the origin of the elder branch, and another son, Thomas born 1536, is the origin of the younger branch. The elder branch stayed in England and rose to some distinction in the person of Thomas Roby, born 1598, who held office in the household of Henriette Marie, Queen of Charles I. We will however concentrate on Thomas born 1536, the younger branch.

John(#5) came to Maryland in 1662 with his son John(#6), who was 14 years old. There is a possibility that John #6 is not the father of Benjamin listed below. This is a logical conclusion that I will leave this way until documention is found to prove otherwise.
