Daniel Easter is the Great Great Grandfather of Ron Carty

In June 1995 Ronald & Winzer Carty laid a wreath in honor of their Civil War ancestor, Daniel Easter who 130 years earlier died in the Confederate Prisoner of War camp, Point Lookout, Maryland 1865. Daniel Easter was a Private in Company C of the 29th Virginia Infantry.

A federal prison camp for Confederates was built on Point Lookout, Maryland, at the extreme tip of St. Mary's County, on the barren peninsula where the Potomac River joins Chesapeake Bay. The camp was convenient to the battlefields in the East and therefore became the largest Union prison. The camp was established after the Battle of Gettysburg to incarcerate Confederate prisoners. The camp was in operation two years, July, 1863-June, 1865.

I was told that the daughter in the picture with Emanuel and Lavania Easter on your Easter page is Jennie Linn "Dolly" Easter. She married Ambrose Payne who was the son of Zachariah and Charlotte Payne. Then moved to California and married a Smith.

Did you know that there was a memorial Confederate States Army grave marker placed at the Marion Cemetery in Cana, Virginia for Daniel?
