Grandfather Co E. b. 12/17/1820 Carroll Co; enlisted 8/6/61 in Carroll Co. as 1st Lt;commanding company 10/61 on leave 1/62; then present thru 4/62; resigned 4/1862 prob. effective 5/1862 for reasons of health; later in 26th Va. Cav. and 4th Va. Res; living in Carroll in 1880; died 12/3/1896 prob. in Surry Co. NC and buried in family cemetery in Carroll, father of James C. and brother of Mordecai.

My G. Grandfather Co. E b. 7/23/1844 Surry Co. NC. enl. 8/7/1862 in Tazewell Co. present all rolls thru 4/1864; det. duty 1864 as brigade teamster; paroled at Appomattox 4/9/1865. died 9/21/1930
