All of the documentation except his gravestone gives his birth date as 28 June 1889 including his draft registration card which he filled out and signed. Therefore even though his gravestone gives his birth date as 18 June 1889, I believe that 28 June is correct.

Raymond R. Ball died May 16, 1968 in a Fort Bragg hospital. Born at Boonville June 28, 1889, he went with his family to Point Arena where he grew up. He married in Sacramento March 23, 1929. He and his wife Erma operated a trailer court at Nevada City for 20 years. She died in 1951 and he moved to Sacramento and in 1960 to Elk to live with his sister. He was a veteran of World War I. Two sisters survived; Mrs. Clyde Baker of Elk and Mrs. Glenn Wilson of West Sacramento. Rev. Roy Nielson led the funeral service in Fort Bragg May 18th. Graveside rites were held on the 20th in Grass Valley, Rev. Lyndell Witt officiating. ²⁴ ⁴²

Velma Juanita Gibson

Memorial services will be held Monday, Oct. 27, 2 p.m. at Eversole Mortuary for longtime Ukiah, resident Velma Juanita Gibson, 88.

Born June 18 1898, in Boonville, she was a housewife, past master of the Eastern Star and past president of Kosmos Club.

She died Oct. 23, 1986 after a long illness. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with officers of the Eastern Star officiating.

She was the widow of the late Supreme Court Judge Lilburn J. Gibson and daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. E.B. Ball of the pioneer Jefferson David Bell [sic] family and descendent of the pioneer Ingram and Clow families of Anderson Valley.

Gibson moved to Ukiah when she was six years old and during her early married life she was half owner of a flower shop in Ukiah. One brother, Ernest B. Bell [sic] and a sister, Edna Holliday, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her children Arden R. Gibson and Ernestine Davis of Ukiah; grandchildren Susan Miles and Judith Zwicky of Ukiah, Sandra Davis of Sebastopol and Sheryl L. Flores of Virginia Beach, VA. Great-grandchildren are Robert N. and Michael J. Zwicky of Ukiah; Jennifer and Sarah Miles of Ukiah; Kathryn Zwicky Quinones of Davis and Raymond Flores of Virginia Beach. Her great, great grandchild is Christopher Zwicky of Ukiah.

Her sister Lola Wilson of Ukiah, brother Irvin of Ukiah and several nieces and nephews also survive.

High School Girls in Dangerous Accident

An accident that might have been fraught with very serious results occurred to three high school girls last Tuesday morning. They were Misses Velma Ball, Loraine Holliday and Neva Duncan. They were driving on Pine Street near the Jamison home en route to school when an axle of the buggy broke and the horse ran away turning the vehicle over. All three were spilled out and Miss Holliday was somewhat crippled, the others escaping injury except to their nerves.
