General:
Skeets Duane Teigland, 80, of Chico, joined our Lord in heaven on May 30, 2008. Born in Albert Lea, Minn. to Lucas and Veva (Weirson) Teigland on June 17, 1927. He grew up in Iowa with brothers, Lucas and Carroll, and sister, Ardis. He graduated from Ames Iowa High School and joined the Navy in 1945. He served in World War II on the USS Girbert Island. In 1948, he moved to Calif., where he met the love of his life, Mildred "Rusty" Way. They were married on Aug. 21, 1951 and raised three children, Mardy Duane, Drew Scott, and Paula Renie (Rai), in Torrance, Calif. He worked for Safeway until 1963 when he went to work at Frito-Lay as a route salesman. In 1985, he retired and he and Rusty moved to Chico.
Skeets was a great husband, father, and "Papa." He loved the Lord, his woodworking shop, his family and many friends. Skeets is survived by his wife of 56 years; his three children and their spouses; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; his brother, Lucas; sister, Ardis (Wirtz); other cherished relatives; and his loving church family. He was an example and inspiration to his family. He will be greatly missed.
Viewing will be at Bidwell Chapel, Tues., June 3, 2008 from 5-8 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Wed., June 4, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Glen Oaks Memorial Park, followed by a memorial celebration service at noon, at Chico Evangelical Free Church.
