Grave, Alyce Ann - Entered into rest April 3, 1995, in Healdsburg. Age 45 years. Longtime resident of Healdsburg, Alyce was the beloved wife of Terry Grave, cherished mother of Waid Alfred and the adored daughter of Waid and Birdie Eddinger. Also survived by numerous cousins.

Charles Eddinger
Charles "Sid" Eddinger, 97, member of a pioneer Dry Creek family, died Sunday at a Healdsburg convalescent home.
Eddinger was a barber for more than 30 years before becoming a real estate broker. He never made it past the fifth grade, but authored several books.
He was born in the family homestead house off Chemise Road on May 12, 1908. He first worked on the ranch, cultivating apples and prunes, raising goats and making split -rail fencing.
A hunting accident in his early 20's led to a change in livelihood. While hunting rabbits, he accidentally shot himself in the leg with a shotgun as he was climbing through a fence.
Eddinger lost his leg and subsequently enrolled in barber school in San Francisco.
It was hard to tell he had a wooden leg, other than the time he was thrown from a horse and his prosthesis stayed in the stirrup, said his son, Jerry Eddinger of Healdsburg. He also astounded some unsuspecting spectators once by putting his wooden leg on top of a rattlesnake.
For most of his career, Eddinger owned a barber and beauty shop in the small settlement of Straubeville, just west of Petaluma off Bodega Avenue.
In his late 50's Eddinger retired as a barber and went into real estate, moving back to the old Dry Creek homestead.
"He was an avid hunter. Those hills kept him up there - deer and pig and coon and squirrel - he loved it all. Lots of hound dogs too," said his son.
Eddinger was married to Opal Fincher in 1930, with whom he had four children. They divorced after 16 years.
He was married for 43 years to his second wife, Gladys Goldie Eddinger, who died in 2001.
"He wrote three or four books," said Jerry Eddinger. "They were about nature and a child's view of nature. They sold 1,000 or 2,000 copies in the 1960s."
He also wrote about child rearing and the need for a parent to be at home when a kid got back from school "to teach them right and wrong on everyday issues," said his son.
Other survivors include sons Jack Eddinger of Breese, Ill., and Dick Eddinger of Vacaville; daughter Mary McCord of Vacaville; brother Waid Eddinger of Healdsburg; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great -grandchildren.

After his mother's death Charles was put into the guardianship of Annie Cobb, a widow, in Angels Camp, CA. It isn't known what happened to his brothers. 10 11
