Died in Knoxville, TN 29 July 1879, Mrs. Mary Ann McClung, daughter of the late James W.
McClung, a distinguished lawyer of Huntsville, and widow of Capt. Pleasant M. McClung of
Knoxville, aged about 53 years. She was born and raised in Huntsville, left Huntsville in
her girlhood, went to Knoxville, and there married her cousin, Capt. Pleasant McClung. He
lost his life for the Confederacy, in Burnside's attack on Knoxville. She was devoted to her
husband, her children, friends and to her native South.

Clarence Lavergne Widney 27 Dec 1894, Topton Co., MS. Leonidas Montgomery Thermopylae McClung
was born 9 Feb 1838, Huntsville, AL and died 13 Oct 1885, Meridian, MS married Mary Celeste
Grinage 9 Mar 1858 at Houma, LA. L.T. McClung was a son of Alexander McClung and Rebecca
Ware.
Whereas Alexander M. McClung, late of Madison Co., AL, in 1825 was indebted to John Ware, then of
Madison Co., but now of Limestone Co., placed it in the power of John Ware to secure patents
for the E 1/2 of NE 1/4, Sec. 7, T4, R2W to be conveyed to said McClung if the debt were
paid. The said Alexander M. McClung died intestate, leaving the following children surviving.
The said John Ware has received the money due, so he and wife Mary T., convey to said:

NOTE: Alex McClung was a son of William McClung who died in 1818 in Madison Co. This
connection with the Whites is significant because it tends to tie this family to Col. Charles
who married Margaret White. Their son, James White McClung, was prominent in this county.
It is likely that Alexander Montgomery McClung and James White McClung were cousins.(J Mc)
