William Caldwell

CL-4 WILLIAM CALDWELL

William was probably born about 1760 in Virginia. He married Elizabeth Kennedy in Lincoln Co, KY 18 Aug 1786. (Micky Spindler) He was listed in the Montgomery County, KY land records with his brothers John, James and Kinkead. He died in Bath Co., KY.

---------------

From Gene Martin of Phoenix, AZ, we have:

Elizabeth Kennedy, 2 Aug 1766 - 16 May 1805 married William Caldwell 15 Aug 1786 Lincoln County, KY. Elizabeth was daughter of John Kennedy, 1733 in England or Scotland, died 1813 Giles County, TN + Elizabeth King, BD unknown, died after 1783, married about 1752 in VA or NC. See Elizabeths family

William's sons were named in his Will in 1823: Ann P., John K., Joseph, Ephraim, Andrew, Elizabeth, Jane and James. William was named in the will of James Sr. in St. Francois County and it stated that John had two sons: Ephraim and Joseph and three daughters. The will states that both William and John were deceased by 1840. Most of this is wrong. William's will proves otherwise.

We find John and Ephraim listed in Pike County, Missouri in the 1830 census:
John Caldwell: 0011001000000/0011001000000
Ephraim Caldwell: 0010110000000/1000010000000

CL-4-1 JOHN KENNEDY CALDWELL

The first son of William Caldwell was born 28 Jan 1788 probably in Montgomery Co., KY. His brother, Ephraim had married before 1830 and had established his own household. Joseph was still living in Kentucky. We would like to know the names of the two sons and two daughters. John died ca May 1822 in Pike County. His intestate record is referenced in Book A. of Pike Co. Wills and Administrations. It appears that his wife's name was Sally Utterback whom he married 12 Apr 1810 in Bath Co. KY. Ephraim was appointed administrator along with Sally Caldwell. Securities were Wm. Penix and James Shields.

CL-4-2 ANN P. CALDWELL

Ann may be the oldest child of William as she was mentioned first in the will. She married a Kincead (spelling as in the will). She may have married Andrew Kincaid, the executor of William's will.

CL-4-3 JOSEPH CALDWELL

The third child of William Caldwell was probably born ca 1784. He was not Missouri in 1830 but there was a Joseph in Pike County in the 1840 census index. Have not found him in Pike Co. in 1850 but probably had died by then.

CL-4-4 EPHRAIM CALDWELL

The fourth child of William Caldwell was born ca 1790 in Kentucky. He was listed as a head of household in Bath County in 1820. He was age 30-40 in 1830 census of Pike County. He was an executor in his father's estate in Kentucky in 1823. He had probably died by 1850 as he was not listed in Pike County. Pike County probate records show Ephraim as executor for his brother's estate (John) in 1831. Then in 1835 he was security in the guardianship of minor, Walter Caldwell where Harmon was named guardian. In 1840 Ephraim is listed in the deeds of St. Francois Co., MO as receiving Power of Attorney to handle the property of Harmon and Walter K. Caldwell. They were heirs of James Caldwell. Harmon was a son of John K. Caldwell and Walter K. may have been also.

CL-4-5 ANDREW H. CALDWELL

The fifth child of William Caldwell was born 1785. He and James are named as the youngest two boys. From later census records it appears that there was nine years difference between them. This is why we have placed the younger two sisters between them. The biography of Andrew H. and his descendants was researched by Arthur B. Caldwell, who was a descendant, and Thurston Cole who was a descendant of Leonard Farrar. Andrew md Nancy Ann Farrar, dau of Leonard.

CL-4-6 ELIZABETH CALDWELL

The sixth child of William Caldwell was probably born in the 1790s. She probably married a Swany. The name was hard to transcribe in William's will.

CL-4-7 JANE CALDWELL

The seventh child of William Caldwell was probably born in the 1790s. She married a Mr. Reed.

CL-4-8 JAMES CALDWELL

The eighth child of William Caldwell was born ca 1794 in KY, probably Bath County. His biography and the list of his descendants have been researched by Judith McClung, Malinda James, Glen Stanfield and others.
