John A. Hildebrandt, one of the leading residents of Carlisle, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania was born in that city, 24 July ___ (too dim), a son of Henry and Elmira (Adams) :Hildebrandt.
The father was born in Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany 9 Aug 1835 and when a lad of 18 years, came to America and located in New York City. He died 23 Aug 1895. His wife was born in Perry County, PA 15 Oct 1847 survives him. They had five children: John A. (the subject), Mary (unmd), Harry (unmd), and two who are deceased. They were Lutheran.
John A. Hildebrandt married Elizabeth Jane McFeaters who was born in Juniata Co., PA 16 May 1869. They had two children: Harry W. and John R. who reside in Carlisle, PA.
p. 48: Hugh McGuire died abt 1807. He had md Patience ___. Her will dated 9 July 1825 was probated Nov. 1825 and recorded in Warren Co. Register's Docket A. p.44 Listed Mary Hilderbrant as one of the 11 children.
p. 80: Many Dunkers emigrated from the Palatinate in 1720-1 and settled on the Pequea and at Muelbach or Mill Creek, on the Cocalico Creek. Among them was Conrad Beissal, who located at Muelbach in 1721. He separated from the Dunkers because he believed the seventh day of the week to be the true Sabbath. In 1725 he retired from the Muelbach settlement and lived for a time as a hermit on the banks of the Cocalico. When his abode became known, others who had adopted his views settled around him. Thus arose the religious society of the Seventh Day Baptists. His successor was Peter Miller.
Johannes Hildebrand, born 1715 in Switzerland, died 4/2/1782, York Co., Penn. He md 1748 to Barbara Glatfelder, dau. of Hans Peter and Salomea (Berg) Glatfelder, born 1729 in Switzerland, died 8/8/1794, York Co., PA.
