Leola B. Schweppe

St. Joseph Residence New London Age 90, passed away on Tuesday morning, December 19, 2000, in New London. She was born on June 14, 1910, in Dale, the daughter of Edward and Ida (Dobberstein) Roesler. On February 14, 1937, she was united in marriage to William H. Schweppe in Dale. Following their marriage, they moved to Africa where they were missionaries in Nigeria and Zambia until William's death in 1968. Leola was a graduate of Kaukauna Normal School and became a teacher at Emanuel Lutheran and Bethlehem Lutheran Schools until her retirement. She was a faithful member of Emanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in New London and an active member of the Ladies Aid as well as the Lutheran Women's Missionary Society. She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy (Walter) Opal, Shoreview, Minnesota; two sons, David (Gwen) Schweppe, Houston, Texas, and Paul (Chris Anne) Schweppe, Bay City, Michigan; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a brother, Carl (Ruth) Roesler, Fremont; a sister, Wilma Hart, Lyle, Illinois. She is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, the Rev. William Schweppe, and a sister, Erdine Roesler. Complete funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 22, 2000, at Emanuel Ev. Lutheran Church with the Rev. William Favorite officiating. Interment will be in Dale Union Cemetery in the spring. Friends may call directly at the church on Friday from 12 p.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established for African Missions. The Borchardt & Moder Funeral Home in New London is assisting the family.
