Our biggest dilemma is my wife's father's family. The picture on the left show Anna's father as a child and his mother is on the right. We know that there were family members in Brownsville, Texas; Matamoros, Mexico; and Monterrey, Mexico about thirty years ago. The family lived in that area since her father's birth sometime in the first decade of the 1900s, so we feel there is a high probability that there are still family members in those areas. Our problem, which the information below illustrates, is that we don't have a starting point.

As you may have surmised from the question marks following the name GARZA, her father's surname is a mystery to us. He came into the U.S. illegally when he was about twelve years old. We believe this was ca. 1920. For personal reasons, he changed his surname to Garza, and was able to obtain a birth certificate(s) in the name(s) of Frank and/or Andrew Garza. He spent the rest of his life living in the U.S. until his death in August of 1967.

He married Rosina Porreca, my wife's mother, in Detroit and in addition to my wife, Anna, they had eight more children: Josephine, Celia (Sally), George, Maryann, Florence, Robert, and two (Clara and Frank) who died as infants. All of their children were born in Detroit, Michigan.

Niether their father nor their mother, who died in 1970, would tell any of their children their father's true surname. At one point the children were told that their true surname was Salazar. Unfortunately, their mother later admitted to one of Anna's older sisters that Salazar was also a fabricated name. She never said what the true name was.

As a teenager in the 1960s, Anna with her father and mother, visited his family in south Texas and northern Mexico. During this visit, one of her cousins offered to tell her what her true surname was. At that time she wrongly believed it to be Salazar, so she told her cousin she already knew. The subject was dropped. Now, thirty years later, she can remember none of the names of the relatives she met, and regrets not pursuing the topic with her cousin.

We located the picture of her father with two of her father's sisters and one of her cousins which is shown above with a picture of her father as a child with his mother, my wife's grandmother. These are displayed in hope that someone will be able to recognize the family from the information or the pictures.

If anyone in the areas mentioned know anything of this, please E-Mail me.
