IV.
JONATHON ROYER, SON OF III. PHILIP.
IV. JONATHON
ROYER, p. 20, was married to IV. Anna Frick,
(*)
b. Feb. 29, 1764, in Lancaster Co. As late as 1795, he was a farmer
in Manheim Township, where his father also resided. He settled in
Leacock Twp., same county, on a farm which his father
purchased
of Peter Sharp. He likely
settled here before 1804, as his father
died in that year. He was one of three sons who settled
the fath-
er's estate, the other two being Abraham
and Philip. That he was
greaatly trusted is proved by the fact that he was repeatedly
chosen
to be guardian for minors. He owned considerable property.
His
home farm in Leacock Twp., at the time of his death,
contained 55
A. and 7 P., including the family cemetery, in which
he is bur-
ied, without an inscription on his tombstone. He bought
101 A.,
80 P. of land in Dauphin Co., Paxtang Twp., Nov. 16 1813
for $800.
Dec. 11 1813, he bought from his brother Abraham,
16 acres adja-
cent to his farm in Leacock Township; and in 1814 he
purchased 165
acres of a tract of 164,000 acres in the northwest part
of Pa., then being
offered for sale. He also owned more that 40 acres of
wood land
in Bart Twp., Lanc. Co. He was also a sort of a doctor,
being a
maker of mortification powders. It is told how a man
afflicted
with lock-jaw recovered after Jonathan had given him
mortifi-
cation powder through a quill inserted where a tooth
was broken
out. Nov. 23, 1793, he paid 15 s. to be exempt from military
service. He belonged to the New Mennonite Church, and
frequently
made trips to Canada, thought to have been in the interest
of his
religion. He likely died early in 1843, inasmuch as a
survey of his
lands looking to settling up his affairs, was made May
13, 1843. His
