BOOK III.           223

III. CHRISTOPHER ROYER, SON OF II. EMIG.

III. CHRISTOPHER ROYER, the third son of II. Emig, p. 16, was
married to Anna Landis, dau. of John of old Earl Twp., Lanc. Co.
In Book M, p. 229, Lancaster Records, we find that on Dec. 5, 1766,
Christopher Royer received a farm in Earl Twp. from John Landis
and wife. This John is likely the "Hannes" Landis who was one
of the first members of the old Conestoga church of the Brethren in
Lanc. Co. Christopher Royer and wife were baptized by the Breth-
ren Sept. 13, 1767. Christopher was a man of means and evidently
able to manage his affairs. He had nine children according to his
will: (*)

* His will was dated Feb. 26, 1803, and was probated Apr. 1, 1805. He
transferred to his son Ephriam the farm whereon he lived, having built a new
house for himself and wife, on condition that himself and wife occupy said
house as long as they lived, Ephraim to supply them with certain specified
things during their life time. This farm contained 130 acres. The oldest
son John had previously received (pounds)450 in land; Ephriam received full (pounds)500
in land. He gave to his son Joel a farm of 120 acres in Earl Twp., valued
at (pounds)1920, (pounds)500 of this being Joel's share, the balance to be paid back to
the estate at the rate of (pounds)75 per year. Daniel had his share in full, having
been advanced (pounds)1000. Each of the six children of Sarah Baker were to
have (pounds)25. Sarah had likely been advanced her share, and her money was
likely lost, as tradition says the Bakers were unfortunate financially. L 500
were bequeathed to daughters, Christiana, Rebecca and Salome (last two being
then single), (pounds)500 were to be divided to the three children of daughter
Mary, dec., married to John Singer. The son John was to receive (pounds)50 yet.
The residue was to be equally divided between the seven children: John,
Ephraim, Joel, Christiana, Rebecca, Salome and the children of Mary, dec.;
daughters parts to be paid first. The executors were son-in-law, Abraham
Frick and his friend John Meyer, in whom "I place entire confidence from their
known integrity" His will is a masterly paper.
