CHAPTER I.

V. SUSANNA ROYER, p. 397, was married to Stephen Kurtz, b.
Jan. 25, 1793, in Berks Co.; d. in Union Co., Pa., Mar. 26, 1867; and
is buried in the Brethren Pike Cemetery, 2 mi w. of Mifflinburg.
He married after Susanna's death Catharine Shanaman, nee Longe-
necker, d. June 2, 1897; aged 93 yrs., 9 mos, 23 ds., who is also bur-
ied at the Pike Cemetery. Susanna died before that cemetery was
laid out and is likely buried near their farm above Red Bank, n. of
Mifflinburg, where her son Stephen was a babe. The Kurtzes first
settled on the east side of the Susquehanna, along the River road
and the Canal, the third farm n. of the Lewisburg bridge. This he
sold and bought a larger farm across in Union Co., the one joining
the present home farm of her grandson, James Spotts, on the north,
above Red Bank. Here she died and perhaps is buried here. Her
grave is unmarked and unknown, but her descendants are numer-
ous. Brethren. Her children:
