Book I.
III. CHRISTIAN ROYER, SON OF II. GEORGE
III. CHRISTIAN ROYER, p. 504, was born in Lancaster Co., Pa.,
May 4, 1749; and died in Franklin Co., Pa., about 1814, his will
being probated in that year. He was married to Anna (Nancy)
Stohler, b. May 26, 1749; d. in 1811. He was a farmer, and re-
sided about two miles from Schaefferstown, Lebanon Co., Pa.
He sold his farm to Robert Coleman, ancestor of the Coleman
Iron Kings of Cornwall, Leb. Co., Apr. 5, 1792, for [pounds]1660. It
consisted of 262 acres, and was bought from the Penns, by Chris-
tian, Dec. 19, 1774. It was in Elizabeth Twp., Lancaster Co., and
seems to have joined Berks Co. He moved up to Franklin Co. in
1793, the year after he sold his property. For his land deals in
Franklin Co., See p.506. He and his wife Anna, according to the
Church Records, were baptized into the old Conestoga Church of
the Brethren, Nov. 1, 1777. According to the census of 1790, the
first of the United States, there were in his family twp males above
16 yrs., two males under 16 yrs., and three females. As valuable as
is that census, it has many errors, and in some way one of the fe-
males was overlooked, for his wife was living and his three daugh-
ters had all been born. See family table below. Otherwise the
census is fully in accord with all our facts. John, the oldest son,
had just been 16 yrs., with his father constituting the two males
above 16 yrs. The Franklin Co. home was about three miles above
Waynesboro and about one mile from Price's Brethren church,
where both are interred. The old church house was built in 1798:
and when dedicating it, the Brethren sang the German hymn,
"Gross is unsers Gottes Guete." Christian Royer no doubt had a
prominent part in building this house. He had a family of six
children, as follows:

The Identity of III. Christian Royer.
Writes the Author: "As to who the said Christian Royer was is not
definitely known any more, or decided even among his own descendants, who
are very numerous, as may be seen. One of his granddaughters, V. Hannah
E. Royer, who taught school for a number of years, was quite an intelligent
lady, and who was in the vicinity of her grandfather raised, was of the opin-
