IV. GEORGE ROYER, SON OF III. CHRISTOPHER.

IV. GEORGE ROYER, p. 601, is a striking character and a puzzle.

The evidence is sufficient that he was a brother of IV. Henry Royer.

See foot-note p. 601.

Mr. Zug states that George moved from Lancaster Co., Pa., to

Stark Co., Ohio, in 1804. He lived here for some time, during the war

of 1812, in which he served as a substitute. From Starke Co., he moved

to Montgomery Co., O., where he married Sarah Schwenk, b. Sept.

30, 1797. Here he bought some land, Apr. 30, 1830, in Madison Twp.

He lived here until 1852, when he moved to the Clear Creek, Hunting-

ton Co., Ind., where his wife died. He was evidently a pioneer. He

made his home in his last years with his daughter, Catharine Wise.

In his old age he made baskets. He died at the extreme age of 99 yrs.,

10 mo., 8 ds., and is buried at the Brethren Sugar Creek Church, near

his home. Funeral twxt Rev. 14:12, 13. He joined the Brethren Chr.

in 1840. He had a family of 14 ch.:

VI. John Adam Royer tells the following incidents concerning his grand-

father, IV. George, herewith, who had personally related them to John Adam.

The grandfather told that he had served under General Anthony Wayne in

his Indian expedition to Fort Wayne, Indiana. He told how he was sixteen

years of age, had just began to shave, had no razor along, and after the two

years service was over came back well bearded. He said he was wagon master
