Probably son of John and Sarah [Firth] Stancliffe christened North End Presbyterian Church, Halifax, West Yorkshire, England June 21, 1789(1), died Pittsburgh, PA Mar. 10, 1858 aged 69 years living on Carson St, ninth Ward(2), married Halifax, England Oct 8, 1815 MARY BRIER.(3)
The first U. S. record of this family is the date of daughter Martha's marriage in Pittsburgh on October 25, 1846. In the 1857 Pittsburgh, PA City Directory, John Sr., "Gentleman", is shown boarding at Spring and Carson together with John Jr., an axle turner.

PI06- 5. WILLIAM STANCLIFFE christened Halifax, West Yorkshire, England Jan. 12, 1823. This is possibly the William Stancliffe of New York City who died about 1872, had wife Catherine [____] , and named son Noah Stancliffe after both his brother(5) and his uncle.

and with sister Sarah Jane living in 1870 with brother Samuel, this is considered to be the family of John and Samuel.
