SOLOMON WILLIAMS FAMILY

(72) MARGARET4 STANCLIFT (Comfort3, James2, James1)

Daughter of Comfort and Eunice [Ranney] Stanclift born East Middletown, CT June 9, 1766(1), listed as Peggy Standliff, died Sangerfield, Oneida County, NY June 9, 1843 AE 77 years, buried Whelan Cemetery, Sangerfield, she married Eastbury Society(2) Dec. 27, 1790 SOLOMON WILLIAMS  son of Solomon and Jerusha [Cole] Williams born Glastonbury, CT July 12, 1766(3) died Sangerfield, NY, Jan 15, 1859, AE 92-6-3, buried Whelan Cemetery.  Before her marriage to Comfort Stanclift, Margaret's mother, Eunice [Ranney] Fox, was widow of Samuel Fox, son of Joseph Fox of Glastonbury, CT. Solomon Williams grandfather was John Fox,  a brother of Joseph Fox.

Solomon and Margaret Williams were living in Whitestown (New Hartford) NY in 1792 as the marriage of Margaret's brother Lemuel to Mehitable Goff took place at their home on Feb. 23, 1792(5).

By 1793 Solomon and his brother Samuel Williams were living in the newly organized town of Sangerfield(6). The first town meeting was held April 7, 1795 and Solomon Williams was one of those appointed "Pathmaster".

In 1796 a Tax Assessment of Sangerfield, Chenango County, now Oneida County, NY(7) revealed that Solomon and Margaret [Stanclift] Williams were joined by a number of related families from Connecticut. Also present were Comfort Stanclift, Samuel Stanclift, Giles and Mary [Stanclift] Mix and their families were all living Sangerfield. By 1800(8) Comfort Stanclift had moved on but the remaining group of relatives was joined by Daniel and Bette [Stanclift] Grover. Solomon's brother Samuel Williams, was listed in the 1796 Assessment and he also remained in Sangerfield. He was living there in 1850 among a number of families named Williams. Solomon and Margaret Williams remained in Sangerfield and Solomon was still living there in 1850 with the family of Nathaniel Munger and wife Sally(9).  Margaret had died by this date and Solomon along with daughter Eunice was living in the family of daughter Sally and her husband Nathaniel Munger.

Solomon Williams purchased on Jan. 19, 1797 Lot #60 in Sangerfield for the sum of �200-10-00 from John Taylor of Albany County, NY(10). Solomon and Peggy Williams sold a portion of that lot Sept. 18, 1811 for the sum of $410.00 to Elias Fraser of Sangerfield and the deed was witnessed by Samuel Williams.

CHILDREN: Solomon and Margaret [Stanclift] Williams (list incomplete)

1. EUNICE WILLIAMS born NY 1797 living in the Nathaniel Munger family in 1850 Census along with father, Solomon.

2. SALLY WILLIAMS born NY 1799 married NATHANIEL MUNGER born NY 1793. They lived 1850 next to a William S. Munger born NY 1826 with wife Mary Ann born NY 1829. They also had son Amos Munger born 1841.

3. GILES WILLIAMS born NY 1806,died Sangerfield Sept 22, 1851, AE 46, buried Whelan Cemetery, married SARAH ANN ____ born CT 1806. They had daughters Julia born 1830 and Susan born 1835. He appeared as "Gial" in the records.

4. HARRIET WILLIAMS BURN 1808, DIED JUNE 8, 1848, AE 40 Years .
