"When a young man, went to Norwich, CT and became one of the original Proprietors of Windham; Feb. 9, 1694, he bought 1,000 acres of land for ten pounds nine shillings. He took position with the first men of the town in civil and ecclesiastical affairs, and was chosen repeatedly to serve in the most important offices, civil, military, and religious; was one of the original members of the First Congregational Church in Windham, and at its organization, Dec. 10, 1700, was chosen Deacon, and held the office till his death. So highly was he esteemed that he was buried by his townsmen under arms, which was a very unusual occurrence.
