John McCollom, a Grant 550 acres State of North Carolina
To all to whom the presents shall come, Greeting. Know ye that we for and in consideration of fifty shillings for every hundred acres hereby granted paid into our Treasury by John McCollum have given and granted and by these presents so give and grant unto the said John McCollum a Tract of Land containing five hundred and fifty acres lying and being in our country of Surry on the north fork of Deep Creek beginning at a Post Oak in Revis's line runs West fifty three chains to a pine then North seventy chains to a Post Oak, then West eight chains to a stake, thence North crossing said creek twenty two chains to a stake, then East eight chains to a Post Oak, then North eight chains & forty five links to a stake, then East fifty three chains to a stake, thence to the Beginning as by the Plot here unto annexed so they appear: together with all woods, water, mines, minerals here______ to the said Land belonging or appertaining: to hold to the said John McCollum his heirs and assigns for ever, yielding and paying to as such sums of money yearly or otherwise as our General assembly from time to time may direct provided always that the said John McCollum shall cause this Grant to be registered in the Register's Office of our said county of Surry within twelve months from the date hereof otherwise the same shall be void and of none Effect. In Testimony whereof we have caused these our letters to be made patent and our great seal hereunto affix. Witness Richard Caswell Esquire our Governor Captain General and Commander in Chief at Kingston the ninth day of August in the XII year of our Independence AD of 1787. John McCollum, Jr., John McCallum, Thomas McCallum, and James McCallum appear side by side. Each shows 1 male as head of the household, and 3 females in the house and no slaves. Thomas is the only one to show a young male under 16 years. [At this time John Sr. is dead.]

John McCollum, no wife signs as heir to deceased John McCollum lets James McCollum (both of Surry) have 105 A. on N. Fork of Deep Creek for 5 shillings. Witnessed by Thomas Hutchens, Susanna Hutchens & Franci Bittick. (This is a part of 550 A. granted to deceased on Aug 9, 1787). Acknowledged Aug 1797
