Our cousin Bobby Rutherford from Mesquite Texas made a trip to Scotland and England in March 1998 and took these pictures of Jedburgh Abby. Bobby has been a great help in researching the Rutherford's in Texas and Mississippi. Not much was known of our Texas relatives until he contacted me and we have been sharing and having a great time with it ever since. Thanks Bobby!

When Bobby sent me these pictures he included a letter of which I would like to share part of it with you.

"In March I took a quick trip to Scotland and England. Saw the Tower of London where 5 Rutherford's were imprisoned. Then to Edinburgh Castle where 2 Rutherford's were beheaded.

Then to the village of Rutherford which was destroyed by the Earl of Hertford (Jane Seymour's brother) by order of Henry VIII in 1544. The village was never rebuilt.

Jedburgh Abby was started by David I in 1138 and added to several times. It also fell victim to Hertford in 1544 and was never rebuilt. It is a great place to visit and there are about 30 Rutherford's buried there."

Sounds like Bobby had a great time!

I lived in England for a year but that was before I got into all this family research. Wish I could go back and revisit and see these places that Bobby saw.

This is thought to be a picture of Thomas but we are still trying to verify it.  If you can help please let me know.

Margret Adeline Lemmond Rutherford 19 Mar 1812 - 31 Mar 1904, wife of Thomas Rutherford, daughter of James McCulloch Lemmond and Elizabeth Moore Lemmond.

This picture is said to be of Thomas and Margret Lemmond Rutherford.  I tend to think this is James Reed and Elizabeth Jane Rutherford Reed.  Never seen a Rutherford with that much hair!

Mary Ann Rutherford Childers 1850-1929 (daughter of Thomas and Margret Adeline Lemmond Rutherford) and her husband James Fletcher Childers 1850-1910 (son of Pleasant and Charolett Denton Childers).  Thanks to Carol Sue Bennett and Kenneth Hill.

Elizabeth Jane Rutherford Reed 1838 - 1927  (daughter of Thomas and Margret Adeline Lemmond Rutherford) wife of James (Jim) Reed.  Thanks to Rhonda Elizabeth Collins Goforth, this is her Great Great Grandmother.

William Williamson Rutherford headstone at Little Hope Cemetery. 5 Jan 1833 - 17 Feb 1890 Civil War Vet, read his bio here.  Parents are Thomas and Margret Adeline Lemmond Rutherford.  April 2000 I put up this new tombstone next to Williams old one.

James Thomas Rutherford son of William Williamson Rutherford and Elizabeth (Reed).  Born 7 Jan 1856 died 19 Jul 1923.

John Allen Rutherford son of William Williamson Rutherford and Elizabeth (Reed). Born 29 Jan 1863 and died 17 Dec 1932. Thanks to Bobby Rutherford for the picture. This is the kind of pictures we are looking for and older ones.

Grave of Wille Maebelle Rutherford 8 Feb 1886 - 18 Sep 1925 Buried Olney, Young Co. Texas daughter of David Henry Rutherford and Sarah Josephine Fuller. Pictured is her son Avon Leroy Neal and Maebell's sister don't know which one. Can anyone tell us which sister this is?  Again special thanks to Rick Neal for this picture.
