| Sister Catherine was born on 31 January 1881 in the village of Vaitemenai
Lithuania. It is in the Taurage Region. Not much is known about
her early life. She entered the Sisters of Saint Casimir on 11 February
1911 from the Providence of God Parish in Chicago Illinois. She made
her first vows to the order 2 August 1911 and was received in Novitiate
on 15 October 1911. She made her perpetual vows on 15 August 1918.
In 1922 she traveled with Mother
Maria Kaupas , the founderess of the Sister Of Saint Casimir and three
other nuns, To Lithuania in order to Establish a Sister Convent.
The convent was established at a 15th century Benedictine Monastery Pazaislis.
Sister Catherine remained at Pazaislis
until 1935. The convent at Pazaislis was given Autonomous status.
She returned to the United States and served the Community as a dietitian
in parish schools that were run by the Sisters of Saint Casimir in the
Chicago Area.
She retired in 1965 and resided at the Mother house in Chicago until
her death on 23 December 1974. |
