WILLIAM, Dorchester, an early sett. rem. to Windsor, but not with the first migrat. for his son JOHN, was b. bef. he went to W. wh. may seem,therefore, to have been as late as 1639; there had bapt. Abigail, 22 Nov.1640; Joanna, 21 July 1642; Eliz. b. 24 Apr. 1645; and Mary, 5 Apr. 1650;but prob. Joanna d. young; rem. again a. 1655 to Northampton, there d. 1June 1677. His will of 15 May preced. gives only s. John most of hisprop. and some to ea. of three ds. Abigail, w. of John Sacket; Mary, wid.of John Allen; and Eliz. wh. m. Peter Bushrod. His wid. Honor, wh. iscall. sis. in her will, by Dorothy Upshall, wid. of Nicholas, d. 1680 atWestfield.

Mention of William Hannum purchasing land in Windsor, CT., EARLY HISTORY OF THE HOYT NAME AND FAMILY, p. 251:
NICHOLAS Hoyt, who seems to have remained in Windsor till his death, in 1655, only nine years alter his marriage to Susanna Joyce. The inventory of his estate amounted to o148, something of a sum for those days. Nicholas and Walter Hoyt, whom we have supposed to be brothers, sold twenty acres of land in Windsor to William Hannum.

William Nicholas Hannum and Honor Capen. William was born in 1600, in Caundle Purse, Dorset, England; the son of James Hannum and Mary Watkins. William came to America on the "Mary and John in 1630 and was an early settler in Dorchester, Norfolk Co.,MA. It was there that he married Honor Capen in 1635 and his first child, John, was born in 1637. Between the birth of John in 1637 and the birth of Abigail in 1640, William moved to Windsor, CT.where Abigail and four other childern were born. Then about 1654-55 William moved to Northhampton, Hampshire Co., MA., where he died in 1677. His will of 15 May preceding gives his only son John most of his property and some to each of three daughters Abigail, wife of John Sacket; Mary, widow of John Allen; and Elizabeth who married Peter Bushrod.

In 1656 William Hannum and his wife testified in the case of Joseph Parsons against Sarah Bridgeman, wife of James. Sarah was charged with slander in having called Mary Parsons, wife of Joseph, a witch.

In 1661, when William was 60, his health began to fail and he was excused from "training, watching, and warding".
