d 19 Jul 1866. Dr. Grover was a medical student with Dr. Timothy
Carter at Middle Interval. He enlisted as a private soldier during
the War of 1812. When his medical studies became known he was
assigned to Portsmouth Hospital ( Portsmouth NH or Portmouth VA ?
Both had military Hospitals at the time. The New Hampshire Hospital
seems more likely). While ther he taught himslef pharmacology and
trained as a surgeon. He continued his studies with Dr. John Merrill
of Portland (ME). Just as he was to recieve his commision the war
ended and he was discharged. He then continued his studies at Harvard
as a pupil to Dr. Warren and return to Bethel, Maine in 1816 to practice.
