"Renovate Old Church at St. Francis Harbor. Repairs are under way this week on the 80 year old church at St. Francis Harbor, one of the oldest churches in the diocese, and the men on the job finding many things of interest. One of the main jobs is to replacement of heavy hewn hardwood beams on which the pillars rest and which have become rotten with age. Other and more extensive repairs are needed to the vestry, a building which was used as a church by the original Irish settlers and was made vestry to the present church when it started in 1867. This old building, formerly a residence, is 150 years old. The first Irish Settlers arrived at St. Francis Harbor and Roman Valley from Newfoundland in the years 1812-1815 and Mass in those earliest days was offered in the homes of the settlers. The present vestry was taken over later. Rev. Will MacIsaac parish priest, reports that the repair work is cold work as the church is situated on a hill overlooking Chedibucto Bay and the ocean winds are anything but warm these days".
